What is Twitch Turbo and Is It Worth It?

We’re living in the era of live streaming, where Twitch remains the undisputed giant. Millions of users tune in daily to watch gamers, artists, musicians, and content creators. Twitch has grown to become more than just a platform – it’s a community.

But at the very core, just like most free platforms, Twitch comes with ads, limited customization, and some constraints. All these can impact your viewing experience. If only there were a workaround for this…

Enter Twitch Turbo, a premium monthly subscription designed to enhance the viewer experience. But what exactly is it, how does it help improve your experience with Twitch, and more importantly, is it worth your money in 2025?

Let’s dive into what this subscription offers, its pros and cons, and whether it’s a bang for your buck.

What is Twitch Turbo?

Simply put, this is a monthly subscription plan offered by Twitch for viewers who want an upgrade. We’re talking more personalized, and ad-free experience across the platform. It was originally launched to give users a way to enjoy streams without interruptions from those pesky ads, while also offering a few other perks.

At the time of this writeup, the current cost of this subscription is $11.99/month (though prices may vary by region). For many users, the primary draw is the ad-free viewing, but the service also includes other useful features for frequent Twitch users.

Who Should Consider This Option?

Turbo isn’t a must for everyone. But it can be a valuable subscription for certain types of users. If you are in any of these categories, you can benefit from the subscription and get the value for your money;

1. You watch a lot of Twitch daily

If Twitch is your go-to entertainment of choice – like your version of Netflix or YouTube… constant ads can become really disruptive, even frustrating. Turbo to a visitor is more like a ViewBotter to a streamer, it helps maintain seamless viewing, especially if you bounce between multiple streamers.

2. You follow many streamers

Without Turbo, you’d need to subscribe to each individual channel to avoid ads (and many streamers still don’t disable them). Turbo gives you a platform-wide ad-free experience, no matter what channel you’re watching.

3. You use Twitch on mobile or TV Apps

Ad-blockers might work on desktop, but they’re ineffective on mobile apps, game consoles, or smart TVs. Turbo covers all platforms you use Twitch on.

4. You support the platform, not just creators

Subscribing to a streamer supports that specific person. Turbo, on the other hand, supports Twitch itself. This is particularly valuable for users who want to invest in the platform as a whole.

5. You want a cleaner experience without pop-ups

Twitch ads can sometimes be repetitive, long, and jarring. If you’ve had it with the constant pop-ups, Turbo keeps your experience smooth and uninterrupted.

The Main Features & Perks

So, what exactly does this upgrade offer? Here’s a detailed breakdown of what you get with your subscription;

1. Ad-free viewing

Let’s be real, ads suck. That’s probably why the headline feature is the ad-free viewing across the entire platform. This means;

  • No pre-roll ads before streams
  • No mid-roll ads during streams
  • No banner or display ads on Twitch pages

Cool huh? However, it’s important to note that…;

Streamers may still run sponsor messages or in-stream shoutouts, which Twitch doesn’t control.

Twitch Prime or regular subscriptions to individual streamers do not remove platform ads unless the streamer disables them. Thankfully, Turbo does.

2. Custom chat badge

Turbo subscribers get a unique chat badge (a purple lightning bolt) that appears next to their username in chat. It’s more of a flex of sorts that sets you apart, but it also shows others you’re supporting Twitch.

3. Expanded emote set

Turbo users receive an expanded set of Twitch emotes. This offers more variety beyond the default global emotes, which can be handy if you’re fond of using them.

4. Custom username colors

Turbo allows you to customize the color of your username in chat. You can call it another perk that’s more of a flex than a necessity. But hey, it gives you more control over how you appear to others.

5. Priority customer support

Another cool benefit to subscribing to Turbo is that you get access to priority queues when contacting Twitch Support. This can be particularly handy if you encounter issues with your account or payment.

The Downsides

Despite all the perks, Turbo still has some downsides that you should watch out for;

1. No channel sub benefits

Turbo does not include a free channel subscription, unlike Prime Gaming. This means you still need to subscribe individually to support specific streamers.

2. Limited “extra” perks

Beyond the ad-free experience and cosmetic upgrades, Turbo doesn’t offer a lot of bells and whistles.

3. Some streamers still run sponsored segments

Turbo only removes Twitch-served ads, sponsored segments embedded by the streamer themselves will still be there.

4. $11.99 may be high for casual users

If you only watch Twitch occasionally, the monthly fee may not feel justified, especially compared to other subscriptions that offer more content or functionality.

The Wrap-Up; Is Twitch Turbo Worth It in 2025?

The short answer… yes. If you watch Twitch daily, switching between multiple streamers, and want to avoid ads on all devices, this one’s for you.

Long answer… It depends. If you’re a casual viewer, or already using Prime Gaming, it might not be such a significant addition for the cost. The same goes if you don’t mind a few ads; you can go for the individual channel subscription instead.
