Are You Encountering Mac Error Codes? Here’s How To Fix Them!

When it comes to Mac error codes, those can be rather challenging to deal with and very problematic. The most important thing is to understand what the error codes mean, and then try to solve them to the best of your capabilities. Here’s what you need to know about dealing with error codes.

What Are Mac Error Codes?

These are usually codes showing that something is wrong with the device. For example, an action failed, a file can’t be accessed, or something is not working ok. That’s not a warning your Mac is about to die, or anything like that. It’s usually very specific, and that’s the most important thing to understand here.

Error Code 36

This error code appears when you are dealing with a write or read problem, usually during moving or copying content to an external drive. If you have an external drive involved, swap the cable or maybe try a different port.

  • A good fix is to use the Disk Utility First Aid, as it will help you identify as well as solve any problems.
  • You can also run a command in the Terminal to try and fix the Directory, “dot_clean”.
  • Entering safe mode to try and copy things might also be a good idea.
  • If that does not work, you can restore the file from Time Machine.

Error Code 50

Error code 50 is also related to saving, moving or copying stuff, but it’s usually between drives. When you try to fix Mac error codes like this, check file or folder permissions, just to be safe. You can also try to copy locally first, as it will help you solve the problem.

And on top of that, you can use a Mac cleanup tool as the means to save errors. It’s a nifty approach and it can help make things much easier.

Error Code 8072

When you see this code, it shows that there are some networking issues. A good rule of thumb is to try and reset the Wi-Fi connection via toggling it on and off. Restarting the router might also come in handy as well.

  • Toggle your iCloud Drive on and off, as it will solve the problem sometimes.
  • It also makes sense to check the firewall and other security tools, if necessary
  • Waiting for the Apple servers does make sense too, as sometimes they can go down, but you can see if they are down or active here.

Error Code 100092

When you see this error code, it means that there is a failure during the external drive operations. A quick fix is to boot up in safe mode, as sometimes the issue will downright disappear, and that is something you want to focus on.

If that does not work, it makes sese to use First Aid on the involved volumes and reinstall the triggering app cleanly. That way, it will help tackle the problems more effectively, and you will find that things will work properly. If this doesn’t work either, then it does make sense to create a fresh Admin user, which will help solve things better than expected.

Can You Have More Than One Error Code?

Of course, that will end up happening sometimes. It’s not a very common occurrence, but it’s definitely possible, and you have to figure out the best way of dealing with such a thing in the first place. There are a few fixes here, for example you can restart from the main menu, run disk utility first aid and sign out of iCloud at least temporarily. You could also use safe mode, just in case the problem comes from a third-party cause.

Preventing Future Error Codes

  • If you want to prevent error codes in the future, always try to keep your Mac OS version up to date
  • Additionally, do some regular maintenance with a Mac cleanup tool. It might not sound like much, but this will help save a huge amount of effort and time as well.
  • Monitor permissions when moving files between drives.
  • Leave at least 10% to 15% of your disk space free, as it just makes your Mac OS run better.
  • Additionally, uninstall apps properly, so you don’t have any remaining parts of those apps in your Mac.

Conclusion

It’s scary to encounter error codes, as those can be rather frightening in their own right. But the upside is that there’s always a solution, regardless of the error code. The most important thing is to understand what the error code relates to, and then narrow down the right solution. It’s always worth the effort, and in the end, it will only make the process better. With that being said, errors will differ, so don’t rush to find a solution. Find multiple solutions and attempt them, until you are happy with the results!
